Otto Kernberg and his team of the Personality Disorder Institute in New York have made significant contributions to literature on understanding and treatment of personality disorders, which marked its beginning wit the book on “Severe personality disorders”. From then on progress has been made, both in diagnosis, integrating neurobiological progress, operationalize concepts for developing diagnostic assessment scientific instruments, and developing a therapy empirically validated for the treatment of this population: Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP).
